Tanya our receptionist (who happens to be my sister) challenged me to participate in the VHI Ladies Mini Marathon.
After sleeping on it I agreed on the condition that she joined me!
So the next question was who was going to be our chosen charity?? Without hestitation I knew Temple Street Children’s Hospital was going to be our chosen one.
The reason why is last year my little boy had an operation on his foot and during our experience the care and treatment we received was second to none.
In my son’s case only being 7 months old he was made feel secure, safe and content while in their care.
Every single staff member from surgeons to porters were exceptional.
Next to the tough part. . . . preparing ourselves for 10km! Thankfully we are part of local ladies GAA club, Ballinameen Ladies so our training was done on the field.
Finally the June Bank Holiday Monday arrived and we both travelled up to the big smoke rearing to go! The atmosphere was electric, sun was out, crowds were present… No Pressure!
Thankfully my sister and I crossed the line in 1hour 1minute and 24seconds to receive our well earned medals.
A few minutes after with our two big red faces we met our idol Bernard Brogan!
We were overwhelmed by the support we received in our community and we raised a whooping €2,270!
It was an unforgetable experience…:)
